The culpable homicide trial of the partner of the late Justice Yvonne Mokgoro, David Mmelesi, continues in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The matter resumed on Wednesday with a car crash investigator taking the stand.

Justice Mokgoro died in May 2024, after she succumbed to injuries she sustained in a car collision in April 2023.

Mmelesi was allegedly the driver when the couple’s car crashed between Warrenton and Kimberley.

Judge Mokgoro’s son, Ithateng Mokgoro says, “I think overall it was a good day, to listen to an expert dispassionately going through the details of what happened, which we need to hear and want to hear because ultimately that’s where the truth lies.”

“He is objective and scientific in his approach and has all the credentials necessary to be the neutral voice, dispassionate voice that pursues the details of the truth and we got that today.”
