Handré Pollard’s unmatched World Cup record makes him South Africa’s greatest flyhalf and the foundation for confidence in a Springbok victory against the Wallabies on Saturday, writes MARK KEOHANE.
Writing for TimesLIVE, Keohane says Pollard is the ultimate big-match player, pointing out that “without the two-time World Cup winner documentaries like Chasing the Sun would not exist”.

Keohane argues that the measure of a great is how they perform in defining moments, and Pollard has delivered more often than any other Bok No 10. “The greats are defined by how they perform in the biggest moments on the biggest stage. Pollard, for the Springboks, at World Cups, has done it more than any other No 10 in the history of the Springboks.”
Pollard’s perfect kicking in the 2023 World Cup playoffs underpinned South Africa’s title defence, and his presence, Keohane writes, is the reason to believe the Boks will edge the Wallabies in Cape Town — and even break their 88-year drought at Eden Park next month.
