DA demands probe into corruption allegations at Limpopo municipality – SABC News
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mogalakwena Municipality in Limpopo says it will write to the Public Protector and the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) minister to request investigations into allegations of corruption at the institution.
The allegations implicate senior municipal officials, provincial CoGHSTA MEC Basikopo Makamu and Premier Phophi Ramathuba.
According to reports circulated on social media, Ramathuba is alleged to have been involved in signing payments exceeding millions of rand by the municipal manager to companies linked to both the Premier and Makamu.
It is also alleged that the two politicians directed the municipal manager to employ their relatives.
The office of the Premier has however, dismissed the allegations as false.
DA MP and head of Mogalakwena constituency, Beyers Smit says the allegations are concerning and should be investigated.
“We as the DA, we are highly concerned about allegations of serious corruption in Mogalakwena Local Municipality that implicates the mayor the municipal manager MEC for CoGHSTA. The Premier and many other well connected political individuals. We will be opening a case with the Public Protector and write to the Minister of CoGTA to demand investigations into these allegations,” explains Smit.
