First batch of Epstein files released – SABC News
The United States Department of Justice has released the first batch of documents related to its investigation into the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, to the House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
The department was responding to a subpoena from the Committee that seeks the full tranche of files related to the Epstein investigation.
It also publicly released a transcript and audio of an ‘out of the ordinary’ interview conducted last month by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking and conspiracy.
Blanche served as Trump’s personal attorney during his New York criminal trial last year before being tapped to serve in the Trump administration.
Maxwell told the Deputy Attorney General that she never witnessed President Donald Trump in any inappropriate setting in any way and that Trump was never inappropriate with anybody.
She also told Blanche that she was not aware of any client list amid theories that Epstein kept one reflecting his engagements with some wealthy and powerful individuals. Epstein died by suicide while awaiting trial in 2019, but Maxwell says she doesn’t believe he killed himself.
Days after the interview, Maxwell was moved to a new minimum security facility in Texas from a low-security prison in Florida with no reason given for the move.
The Trump administration has faced a fierce backlash from his own supporters for not expediting the release of the files.
