Suspect in killing of Gqeberha prosecutor Tracy Brown nabbed in roadblock
A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of State Prosecutor Tracy Brown.
Brown,42, a Regional Court prosecutor in Gqeberha, was gunned down on July 31, 2025.
This week, the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation, known as the Hawks, arrested the suspect at a roadblock.
According to the Hawks, the suspect had fled to Gauteng and was arrested during a coordinated roadblock on August 21, 2025.
“The arrest is a significant step forward, but by no means the end,” said Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya, Provincial Head of the Hawks.
“The Hawks will not allow criminals to intimidate the justice system and will ensure that all those behind this ruthless killing are brought to justice.”
The suspect is expected to appear in court facing charges of murder.
Killed outside her home
Brown was shot and killed outside her home in Lotton Street, Young Park, Algoa Park, by four armed men in a white VW Polo.
The attack, carried out in front of her partner, prompted widespread condemnation from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), which described it as an “assassination-style killing” that strikes at the heart of the justice system.
A multidisciplinary Hawks team, led by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) unit, worked with SAPS divisions to track down the perpetrators.
The investigation quickly identified the suspect, who attempted to evade justice by fleeing to Johannesburg before being apprehended last week.
