Eskom marks 100 consecutive days without load shedding – SABC News

Eskom says it has reached a milestone of 100 consecutive days without load shedding. It has attributed this to its Generation Recovery Plan, introduced in March last year, and the hard work of its teams in stabilising the grid.

The massive uptake in solar energy generation is also believed to have played a role in the recovery of the grid.

Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena adds that the resilience of Eskom’s fleet continues to improve, with unplanned losses due to breakdowns now at 6 035 MW, well below the 7 000 MW threshold.

“The last time Eskom recorded unplanned losses below this level was on 27 September 2020, when the figure stood at 6 829 MW. These operational gains are not just milestones—they are stepping stones toward a larger goal: ending load shedding for good,” says Mokoena.
