It’s anyone’s Rugby Championship title now

Argentina’s historic 29-23 win against the All Blacks in Buenos Aires has thrown the 2025 Rugby Championship title race wide open.

Los Pumas had beaten New Zealand three times since 2020 – in Sydney, Christchurch and Wellington – but this was their first victory on home soil in 16 attempts. The All Blacks had opened their campaign with a 41-24 bonus-point win against Argentina in Córdoba.

Earlier on Saturday, the Springboks avenged their 38-22 loss to the Wallabies at Ellis Park with a 30-22 triumph in Cape Town.

The results set up a thrilling conclusion when the competition resumes on 6 September. The All Blacks host the Boks at Eden Park, while Australia face Argentina in Townsville. The reverse fixtures take place a week later in Sydney and Wellington.

Despite the defeat, the All Blacks top the log with six points after snatching a late losing bonus point in Buenos Aires. The Wallabies are second on five points, with the Springboks and Argentina both on four – the world champions sitting third due to a slightly better points difference.

The Boks will finish their campaign with back-to-back matches against the Pumas in Durban and London, while New Zealand and Australia battle it out for the Bledisloe Cup in Auckland and Perth.
