Nandi Nyembe was a dedicated African storyteller: Devnarain – SABC News
Chairperson of the SA Guild of Actors, Jack Devnarain, says the late veteran actor Nandi Nyembe will always be remembered for her dedication to telling African stories on stage.
Nyembe died on Saturday at the age of 75, after a long period of declining health that left her wheelchair-bound.
The award-winning actor was known for her roles in productions such as Zone 14, Yizo Yizo, Soul City, and Isibaya.
Devnarain says Nyembe captivated audiences on stage, film, and television.
“She always made incredible choices and it was always to the benefit of the production and to the producer, hence they felt that they needed a figure like her, a performer like her in order to tell stories that are important to South Africans.”
