Act Now calls for Kgaogelo Marota’s murder accused to be denied bail – SABC News
Civil Society Organization, Act Now, says the accused in the murder of Kgaugelo Marota should not be granted bail, as there is sufficient evidence indicating his involvement in the crime.
The 26-year-old Lazarus Antonio, who is accused of fatally stabbing Marota who was his ex-girlfriend and injuring his current girlfriend, appeared before the Temba Magistrates’ Court north of Pretoria earlier today.
The case has been postponed to the 5th of next month for a formal bail application.
A video has been making rounds on social media where the accused is alleged to have confessed to the crime.
Organization Chairperson, Tebogo Lerole, says the man must be charged like other perpetrators of Femicide and GBV .
“We were informed as civil society organizations that if a man if found guilty of femicide or a man if found guilty in cases of GBV, there is no bail that is going to be granted to the perpetrator. So, we are expecting the same thing.
We don’t want to be hearing that there’s going to be bail application on the fifth of September or the next date that has been given. I mean there is sufficient evidence that says this man is the murder, he is the one that killed this young lady.”
