Bureau of Market Research report reveals major gender income gap – SABC News
A report has revealed that women’s cash income in South Africa stands at 41.8% compared to men who get 58.2%.
The Bureau of Market Research compiled the report entitled Personal Income Estimates for South Africa.
The bureau’s findings come despite women making up 53% of the adult population.
The bureau’s senior researcher, Arthur Risenga says: “Women make over half of our adult population. You look at 15 years and older, adults in SA, they constitute over half of that population, yet they receive 41.8 % of the total cash income as opposed to males disproportionately earning 58.2% of the total income, so this points to the structural inequalities.”
