Cape Safety Forum calls for probe into gun violence on the Cape Flats – SABC News

The Cape Safety Forum has called for a special probe into gun violence on the Cape Flats. This follows the fatal shooting of an alleged gang member outside the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court this morning.

Another man was also wounded in the incident.

Police say the two victims, who made a court appearance, were leaving the building when they were ambushed by four unknown gunmen.

Chairperson of the forum, Abbie Issacs says the escalation of gang-related incidents on the Cape Flats is concerning.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the violence with the shooting that has taken place early this morning in front the Mitchell’s Plain Court. We are calling for a special probe to be set up to deal with gun violence. We further call the SANDF deployment as a force multiplier, the South African National Defence Force. We further hold that the South African Police Service need to come up with a clear strategy to deal with gang violence because for us it seems that the current plans are starting to fail,” says Issacs.
