The mother of a 14-year-old boy suffering from a rare condition called neurofibromatosis, which causes tumors in the nervous system is urgently seeking assistance.

The teenager from Randfontien, west of Johannesburg, was diagnosed with the condition when he was three years old and since then his health has deteriorated.

His face is deformed as a result of the tumor and he struggles to speak and eat.

Magdaline Marema says her son’s rare condition has affected his schooling as he had to be moved to a special-needs school.

“There so many challenges that my son faces on a daily basis. His life is difficult as he’s being bullied even at school and the playground. It really has affected us. Now, his left ear and eye are no longer working properly. Even his hearing aid can no longer fit his ear,” sasy Marema.
