KZN killed after he was crushed by forklift
A KwaZulu-Natal man has been killed after he was crushed by a forklift on Piet Retief Road in Queensburgh, West of Durban
The incident occurred on Monday just before 4pm.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said they arrived on the scene to find that a forklift had somehow overturned while in operation before crushing the driver.
“Paramedics quickly assessed the driver, a male believed to be in his thirties, however, he had sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing more Paramedics could do for him, and he was declared deceased at the scene,” said Jamieson.
Jamieson said the cause of the accident is still unknown.
“Police members were on the scene and will be investigating further,” he said.
Last Saturday, five members of a family perished in a crash on the N2 in an accident involving a truck and a light motor vehicle between Amatigulu and Dokodweni.
The truck driver’s body was recovered a few hours later.
The funeral of the five family members took place on Sunday in Ndwedwe.
“While we are ensuring the visibility of RTI on our roads, it is important to note that road safety is a shared responsibility.
“Research has proven that changing road user behavior is central to making our roads safer. In fact, statistics indicate that up to 87 percent of all road fatalities in the country can be attributed to road user behavior.”
