Sassa to introduce beneficiary biometric enrolment in September – SABC News

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced that it will be introducing a Beneficiary Biometric Enrolment system in all its offices across the country from September 1, 2025.

According to the agency’s Andile Tshona, the new biometric enrolment is expected to detect potential fraudulent activities in the Sassa’s grant system, among others.

Tshona says the month of August has been used to train frontline stuff to ensure readiness and effective implementation of the biometric enrolment.

“Sassa is quite excited about the introduction of the beneficiary biometrics enrolment, in all of its offices across the country from the beginning of September. This initiative is said to improve social grants systems and curb any fraudulent activities. It will also control the enhancement of risk controls, contribute to a more secure and accountable grant system, whilst ensuring that social grants recipients are living individuals.  The agency has set up the necessary infrastructure and tools, in all its offices across the country,” says Tshona.
