Cancer Alliance demands Gauteng Health to release patients’ backlog list – SABC News
The Cancer Alliance is demanding that the Gauteng Health Department release a list of names of patients treated.
This comes after the department said that it had cleared the cancer treatment backlog.
The demand follows the ruling of the High Court in Johannesburg in favour of the alliance in March after an urgent application.
The judge had declared that the department’s failure to develop and implement a plan to address the oncology backlog was unlawful and unconstitutional.
The alliance’s Director Salome Meyer says, “What we do want to know and why we are insisting on the backlog list that has to be updated is that you cannot just write 3 000 patients off, and glibly say to us, ‘yes we have cleared the backlog list.’ We want to see the evidence, we want to know who those people are, who are the people who possibly have not been treated as yet because we do know of people who have not yet had their treatment.”
