Ekurhuleni ANC targets potholes, power cuts, and water shortages as top priorities

ANC in Ekurhuleni has promised to direct the acceleration of the “quality of life” to ensure that service delivery and local economic development are maintained in the region as their “top” priority.

This was a resolution of the Regional Executive Committee (REC) following the party’s recent regional conference.

The newly elected REC convened its first meeting last week to process, amongst others, the conference report, organisational structures, deployment, and the immediate tasks.

In a statement, the REC warned members that none of their deployees or public officials should be passive on matters of service delivery, stressing that they should deliver on their mandate.

Corruption, maladministration, misuse of public resources and poor performance will not be tolerated, it said.

“At the top of our work will be the rebuilding of an outward-looking movement that is capable of addressing community needs and challenges, including the revival of organisational structures that are closely connected with the people of Ekurhuleni.

“We have thus declared that all ANC Branches, Members, Leaders and Public Representatives must serve as community resources,” the REC said.

The City of Ekurhuleni led by the ANC continues to face critical service delivery issues, including persistent power outages, blocked sewers, and potholes left unattended despite resident complaints.

Water shortages plague townships due to aging infrastructure and high leakage rates.

Although the municipality has acknowledged these problems and promised improvements, delays in budgeting and planning have left many communities frustrated and without essential services.

According to the party, the conference resolved that arrogance must be done away with within the rank and file, and to ensure mutual respect in the course of serving the people.

“All ANC members, leaders and public representatives must serve with humility and abide by the right organisational culture, underpinned by party discipline and ethical conduct,” it said.

This is as parties are preparing for the 2026 local government elections.

In addition, the region reaffirmed the role of women in the development of societies and committed to doing more in advancing Women’s emancipation on all fronts.

“We declared to defend and protect women of our City from exploitation, discrimination and to stop the scourge of Gender Based Violence, particularly the abuse of Women and Children,” it said.
