Public Safety Dept conducts sting operation in Johannesburg – SABC News

Johannesburg’s Public Safety Department is conducting a sting operation in Rosebank and on the M1 road near Killarney Mall.

The aim of the operation is to enforce the National Road Traffic Act.

Enforcement would ensure that cars operating on the city’s roads are roadworthy and adhere to the country’s safety standards.

The focus is also on taxis, buses and scholar transport.

The City’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety Mgcini Tshwaku has encouraged motorists to work with law enforcement officials to ensure road safety.

Tshwaku says, “We are enforcing the Road Traffic Act, you must have a disc and the car must be roadworthy, and also you must not drive on the yellow line.”

He says, “So, we’re impounding these cars by the way because of non- compliance, none whatsoever, even worse now, driving on the yellow lane which is actually what was mostly one of our focus as well. We are warning whoever is driving in the morning, so JMPD (Johannesburg Metro Police Department) is impounding cars now, so don’t drive on the yellow lane because we’ve got also undercover cars which are actually there.”
