Ramokgopa confident new Integrated Resource Plan will be approved – SABC News

The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has expressed strong confidence that the new Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2025, will be approved.

The minister made the announcement at the Independent Transmission Projects Procurement Programme conference held virtually today.

The IRP is a long-term plan designed to map out the country’s electricity generation mix.

Ramokgopa says the final policy-adjusted IRP 2025 represents an investment of over R2 trillion that will define South Africa’s energy mix for the future.

“We will be approving tomorrow. The subcommittee of cabinet is looking at what we call the IRP. I’m confident it will go through. It’s a R2,23 trillion investment. We want to have another 40GW of renewables in the next 10 years, 15 of those must come in the next five years. It’s an ambitious plan but for it to succeed it requires grid availability.”

Meanwhile, the minister briefed the media on the current state of the national grid.
