State intends to bring more dockets against Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala – SABC News
The prosecution in the case against businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and four others intends to bring an additional seven dockets against the accused. This was revealed during their court appearance in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
They stand accused of attempting and conspiring to commit murder to Matlala’s former partner, Tebogo Thobejane in October 2023.
Their main case has been postponed to October for centralisation of dockets.
While Matlala is expected to apply for bail next week, he previously abandoned a bail application in June 2025 and remained in custody.
Matlala, his wife Tsakani Matlala, Tiego Mabusela, Musa Kekana and Nthabiseng Nzama appeared briefly in the dock. They are facing charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempting to defeat the ends of justice and fraud.
The state wants to add more charges.
National Prosecuting Authority’s Spokesperson, Phindi Mjondwane says, “There are seven dockets under investigation; two from Orlando, two from Sandton, two from Pretoria and one from Vereeniging. As the jurisdiction of Gauteng Division, Johannesburg, we have to apply and get the approval of the National Director of Public Prosecution to centralise, especially the Vereeniging and Pretoria dockets, because they fall under a different jurisdiction.”
In 2023, Matlala’s former partner, Tebogo Thobejane was ambushed by unknown hitmen who opened fire on the car she was travelling in. She escaped unharmed. However, her friend sustained injuries.
Accused No.: 5, Nthabiseng Nzama, is the latest accused to be arrested.
“She’s facing charges of money laundering, but as to what role she played that forms part of the evidential material that will be led during the trial stage. Much of that information will be led during the trial and the state will be in a position to show involvement in the matter and how the money was moved from her account and how it was received in her account,” says Mjonondwana.
Matlala, who initially abandoned his bail application, has told the court he wants to re-apply. His application is expected to be heard next week.
