City Power says it’s hot on the heels of infrastructure vandals – SABC News
Johannesburg power utility City Power says it is confident that criminals who are sabotaging their infrastructure in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, will soon be brought to book.
Between March and the second week of this month, 28 cases of theft and vandalism were recorded, with some incidents occurring within days of repairs being completed.
The latest incident was recorded yesterday in Lombardy East, where a transformer was vandalised.
Spokesperson for City Power, Isaac Mangena, says, “City Power is concerned about the rise in the number of vandalism incidents in Lombardy East in Alexandra and surrounding areas. As we are currently making headway in our efforts to follow on the leads of those who could be involved in this, which could be a coordinated and organised group of criminals who are hell-bent on sabotaging our work in the area.”
Meanwhile, the entity says it is fighting a battle on two fronts with the release and rearrest of thieves and vandals who continue to sabotage infrastructure.
