SASSA grant payment dates for September 2025

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially announced the payment schedule for September 2025, providing crucial financial support for beneficiaries of old age, disability, child support, and Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants.

Beneficiaries can expect their payments on the following dates:

  • Old Age Grant: Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
  • All other grants, including Child Support: Thursday, September 4, 2025.

SASSA encourages beneficiaries to refrain from rushing to collection points on the first day, as this often leads to lengthy queues. Proper planning can significantly reduce the time spent waiting to access funds that are essential for daily living.

In addition to announcing the payment dates, SASSA has addressed the persistent issue of unauthorised deductions from social grants. This warning is particularly relevant amid increasing concerns about financial exploitation. Beneficiaries are urged to be vigilant and report any discrepancies immediately. “Is money being deducted from your social grant without your permission? Report this to your nearest SASSA office as soon as possible,” the agency advised.

To make the reporting process more accessible, disputes can now be lodged via SMS by sending an ID number along with the name of the financial service provider to 34548.

SASSA has reassured beneficiaries that legal protections are firmly in place regarding deductions. Specifically, “only one deduction is allowed per month, up to 10% of your grant, and only if a beneficiary has consented to such a deduction.” This safeguard aims to protect vulnerable individuals from unexpected financial burdens.

Furthermore, the agency provided updates regarding the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) payments, confirming that disbursements for August 2025 will take place between August 27 and 30.

Beneficiaries facing delays due to a “referred” status have been advised to verify their identity online. SASSA explained that if the referred status is resolved, payments will be issued from the next cycle, alongside historical payments as per the stated schedule.
