Pietermaritzburg court hands down life sentences to convicted hitmen – SABC News
Two taxi hitmen are serving a life term each after the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal sentenced them on Friday.
Muzi Sibiya and Nduduzo Shezi had been found guilty of robbery.
The incident had taken place at a pay point of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Msinga in 2022, during which a woman was shot dead.
Provincial police spokesperson Rebort Netshiunda says Sibiya was found hiding inside a cave and was in a possession of a jacket and a two-way radio, as well as an undisclosed amount of money which was stolen during the robbery.
Netshiunda adds that suspect profiling showed that Sibiya was a taxi driver and a suspected hitman from Msinga area, and as such the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Taxi Violence Unit took over the investigation.
“Pieces of evidence collected from the suspects’ vehicle pointed to Nduduzo Shezi. A search for him led to a prison in Gauteng province where the Gauteng Taxi Violence Unit detectives had arrested him for a separate case of taxi industry-related murder,” says Netshiunda.
