Bloody weekend in Nelson Mandela Bay as three killed in separate shootings

A man shot inside a nightclub was among three people killed by gunfire in separate incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay at the weekend.

The deadly spree began on Saturday morning when the body of a man was found riddled with bullet holes at a bus stop in the Ezinyoka township at 11am.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said the identity of the man was not immediately known.

“On [police’s] arrival, they found the body of [an] unknown man with multiple gunshot wounds,” she said.

“At the time of his death, he was wearing a navy blue Adidas top, brown cargo pants, white shirt with black stripes, blue waist band with gold chains around his neck, and a light green beanie.”

Less than 24 hours later, a man died in Livingstone Hospital after being shot inside a nightclub in Central.

Janse van Rensburg said at about 11:50am on Sunday, Humewood police responded to the incident.

“According to information gathered at the hospital, the deceased arrived at Livingstone hospital after complaining about stomach pain,” she said.

“He passed away at the hospital due to a gunshot wound.

“Preliminary investigation stated that the deceased was at a nightclub in Central and a firearm was discharged inside the venue, resulting in the wounding of the deceased.

“The investigation is ongoing.”

On Sunday night, another man was found with a gunshot wound to the head outside a home in Kwazakele.

Janse van Rensburg said New Brighton police responded to the complaint in Madikane Street, Kwazakele.

“According to the complainant, she heard a gunshot and when it was quiet, she noticed the deceased lying outside with gunshot wounds to the head.”

She said murder dockets were opened in all three cases and that the motives were not known.
