Celebrating Women's wellness: highlights from the Weekend Argus experience
More than 250 women gathered at the Lagoon Beach Hotel in Milnerton for the Weekend Argus Women’s Wellness Experience, a day dedicated to celebrating femininity, wellness, and connection.
Guests were welcomed with 18 vibrant activation points showcasing a wide variety of products and services. From soothing hand massages and crystal healing to scented candles for every occasion, beautiful jewelry, and even a book station. The message was clear: beauty and brains belong together.
The programme opened with a calming Chair Yoga session led by Daphne Miller, setting a tone of mindfulness and relaxation. This energy flowed seamlessly into a body-conscious session with Amanda Lan, leaving the women grounded and refreshed.
Adding a spark of heat to the morning, Dr Marlene Wasserman affectionately known as Dr Eve spoke candidly about the importance of connection, both in and outside of the bedroom. She reminded attendees of the vital trio: fun, play, and pleasure. The day then took a lively turn with a captivating belly-dancing performance that had the audience swaying along.
In addition to the experiences and entertainment, each attendee was gifted a goodie bag, with several lucky women including Lonese Jacobs, Sue Levy, and Janine Kim Lan-Wilson winning spot prizes.
The highlight of the day was the panel discussion, “Women’s Health in Focus,” featuring esteemed experts Prof Pamela Naidoo, Dr Paree Amod, Dr Laylah Fakier, and Prof Elmarie Terblanche. Their insights, followed by an engaging Q&A, sparked important conversations around women’s holistic wellbeing.
Weekend Argus editor Jade Otto delivered a heartfelt message, acknowledging Mrs Survé, the Survé family, and all esteemed guests:
“I believe something powerful happens when like-minded women come together. I see growth and development, support and encouragement. Today is about networking, building relationships, and fostering long-term connections.”
She also reflected on the role women play in shaping the Weekend Argus’s identity and future:
“Most of our readers are women, and that is something to celebrate. For more than a century, the Weekend Argus has told the stories of Cape Town and its people but it is women who continue to guide us forward. Their voices, their choices, and their resilience keep us relevant.”
Otto closed by reminding attendees,“Women today are leading in business, in homes, and in communities. They are decision-makers, change-makers, and creators. Our responsibility is to reflect that power, to amplify it, and to celebrate it.”
