Gauteng police have arrested more than 100 suspects linked to gender-based violence during the final week of Women’s Month.
Provincial spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the arrests were made during Operation Shanela over the weekend, targeting suspects wanted for rape, sexual assault, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Masondo says the operation, led by detectives across the province, resulted in more than 1 000 arrests for various crimes throughout the month of August.

The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni led the operation in Sebokeng, Sedibeng District.
Meanwhile, the District Commissioners led parallel operations in the Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, West Rand, and Johannesburg districts.
In an effort to minimise road accidents due to drunk and driving and to ensure that road users are safe, police conducted roadblocks across the province, which saw one hundred and thirteen people being arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
