Highgate Hotel massacre inquest resumes in East London – SABC News
The inquest investigating who should be held liable for the Highgate Hotel attack that took the lives of five people, leaving many others injured in May 1993 is expected to resume at the East London Special Tribunal on Monday.
The inquest adjourned last month following testimonies from former police officers and investigators who were part of a team that responded to the scene at the hotel in East London.
The officers testified about what they saw when they responded to the alert about the incident.
Former police officer Franswa Stassen testified about the collection of fingerprints and the manner in which they are stored.

The tribunal heard that the case docket does not suggest that fingerprints on cartridges collected on the night were lifted.
While former police officer and fingerprint expert Franswa Stassen refuted the claims, Advocate Howard Harvey, who is the legal representative of the families, lambasted Stassen for failing to ensure that police investigators combing the scene were in fact doing their job.
Another witness, a former neighbour of the Highgate hotel, Desree Smith, told the tribunal that she saw two black men armed with heavy guns walking from the hotel a few minutes after the shooting incident.
The matter continues, with more witnesses taking the stand.
