SANParks re-opens Silvermine trails post devastating fire – SABC News

The Table Mountain National Park has re-opened several trails at its Silvermine facility near Tokai, following a devastating fire in April this year.

The fire severely damaged trails, boardwalks, and dam sites, creating hazardous conditions due to exposed debris like nails and metal.

The fire burned about 2800 hectares of vegetation, including sensitive fynbos.

About 4 million people visit the Table Mountain National Park annually, making it one of the most visited parks in South Africa.

Park Manager Megan Taplin says, “We’re happy to welcome all of them back, some of them have been waiting patiently. People love this area to come for their hikes, their trail running, walking their dogs, motor biking as well. So we are happy to welcome back and thank them for their patience, but we are still continuing with the work, some trails are not open yet”
