Two by-standers shot and killed during CIT robbery in Boksburg – SABC News
Two by-standers have been shot and killed during a cash-in-transit robbery at Barry Marais Road in Boksburg in Ekurhuleni in Gauteng.
Police say the cash van was rammed by a silver Mercedes-Benz, causing it to overturn onto a minibus taxi with seven occupants.
Five people were injured and received medical treatment, while two escaped unharmed.
A gang of eight suspects then bombed the cash vehicle and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says, “Gunshots were in the process fired between the suspects and the security company that was nearby. Two bystanders were caught in the crossfire and have been declared dead. Police investigations are underway.”
Last month, police in KwaZulu-Natal launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects following two separate cash-in-transit heists.
The first incident took place in Cottonlands near Ndwedwe, north of Durban, while the other happened in Pietermaritzburg.
Both incidents reportedly happened around the same time.
Police said the robbers were able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash in both incidents.
