Robin Westman, the 23-year-old killer of two children, ages 8 and 10, while injuring 14 others in the Annunciation Catholic Church’s affiliate school in Minneapolis, was transgender, a status in vogue among the liberal establishment. Was that status responsible in whole or in part for Westman’s crime wave before suicide? The jury is out.  

But consider this legal anomaly. Since 1962, no drug can be approved for use by the Federal Food and Drug Administration unless it has been proven both safe and effective through meticulous trials often costing hundreds of millions of dollars. The safety-and-effectiveness standard was born of the thalidomide scandal. It was a drug commonly prescribed to treat ailments associated with pregnancy but caused appalling birth defects.

Medical devices also must surmount safety-and-effectiveness vetting before commercial distribution. 

Transgender surgery, however, is not vetted for safety or effectiveness, including for minors under 18. Indeed, there is no professional consensus as to the meaning of transgender surgery success. The surgery is irreversible. Its benefits are unproven. Its hazards regarding physical or mental health are unknown.

Denmark prohibits transgender surgery to individuals under 18 years old. Instead of surgery, minors can access non-surgical gender-affirming treatments, such as hormonal therapy, which are administered through the country’s sex clinics. Many other European countries follow Denmark’s lead.

The species has been evolving for many millions of years cultivating traits that optimise physical, mental, and emotional health.  Heterosexuality is the norm for a reason. It fosters procreation necessary for species survival. It establishes unambiguous sex roles and identities that fortify psychological stability and health. It promotes child rearing with both a father and a mother serving as role models without confusion. God did not throw dice in creating Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

President Donald Trump should be applauded in his Executive Order issued on January 20, 2025, “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism And Restoring Biological Truth To The Federal Government”.

President Trump declared: “It is the policy of the United States to recognise two sexes, male and female. These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality. Under my direction, the Executive Branch will enforce all sex-protective laws to promote this reality…”

The study of sex is confounded because of the personal conflict of interest in all researchers.  They search for data or propose hypotheses that correspond to their own sex agenda—a triumph of the hormonal over the cerebral. How can it be otherwise? The human anatomy features male or female genitalia. There is no Aristotelian mean.

Notwithstanding Masters and Johnson, sexual research will always be inconclusive. What may be accepted as gospel today may turn to heresy tomorrow.

The Declaration of Independence acknowledges that our Creator endowed us with certain unalienable rights.  But that endowment also included a separation of the species into men and women to promote survival and propagation. It is unnatural to seek to disturb biology clueless of the ramifications for species mental and physical health.

Cures for life’s imperfections ordinarily prove far worse than the disease.  Transgender surgery—especially for minors—fits the bill.
