Alleged insurance fraud killers’ denied bail – SABC News

A former police Sergeant and her two accomplices, accused of insurance-related killings, have been denied bail by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo.

Rachel Kutumela, her sister Anna Shokane and daughter Florah Shokane have been applying for bail since December last year.

They allegedly orchestrated the murders of nine people for insurance payouts amounting to R10 million.

They have been remanded in custody until their next appearance on November 4, 2025.

Delivering the judgment, Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi said that the accused had failed to provide any exceptional circumstances that would justify them being granted bail.

He further said that the witnesses’ lives might be in danger if the accused are granted bail.

“The provisions of Section 60 subsection 11A of Act 51 of the year 1977 were not satisfied; having said that, the application for bail for all three accused is hereby refused.”
