Drunk driver crashes into Mdzananda Animal Clinic, causing extensive damage

A devastating incident unfolded at the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, when an alleged drunk driver drove his truck into the clinic, leaving the beloved community resource in dire straits.

Truck went straight into the operating theatre, causing catastrophic damage to the facility. This incident followed a separate occurrence just a day earlier, when another vehicle crashed into the clinic’s fence.

The destruction inflicted on the clinic is staggering. Not only will the entire operating theatre need to be rebuilt, but the clinic’s storage room has also been flattened, requiring urgent reconstruction.

“This is damage of an enormous scale – damage we could never have budgeted or prepared for,” said Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Executive at the clinic. “We are devastated, but we are also grateful that no animals or staff were harmed.”

“Despite the severe impact on operations, dedicated staff at the clinic remain committed to providing care for the animals they serve. They are determined to continue their work, ensuring the best possible treatment can be delivered, albeit with reduced efficiency in the aftermath of this tragic event.”

In response to the crisis, the clinic has urgently launched a fundraising appeal to help rebuild the theatre and restore full functionality. The community is urged to support the effort by donating through the following banking details: Mdzananda Animal Clinic, Nedbank, Current Account, Branch Code: 198765, Acc: 1314465147, Reference: damage + your name.
