Five dead in N1 North accident between Buccleuch and Midrand – SABC News
Five people have died on the N1 North freeway between the Buccleuch Interchange and Allandale Road in Midrand following a fatal vehicle crash involving a minibus taxi.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla has cautioned motorists of major traffic disruptions due to some road closures in the area.
“Emergency services and law enforcement officials are currently on the scene. The accident has resulted in multiple injuries and tragically, five confirmed fatalities. The far-right lane is currently affected and traffic is severely backed up. A full closure of the freeway will be necessary shortly to allow for the proper processing of the scene and recovery operations,” says Fihla.
Has advised motorists to exercise patience.
“Motorists can expect heavy delays in both directions on the N1 freeway. The JMPD strongly advises all road users to avoid this section of the freeway and to seek alternative routes. Motorists are urged to exercise patience and to drive with caution,” he adds.
