Second Gaza aid flotilla departs Tunisia – SABC News

A second flotilla of activists trying to break the Israeli blockade of Palestine leaves from Tunisia on Sunday.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, which left on Friday on another flotilla from Barcelona, Spain, includes local healthcare workers on board.
The flotilla is called “Sumud,” which means steadfast, and is carrying several activists from around the world, all with one purpose in mind: to deliver aid to Palestine.
Author and Occupational Therapist, Dr Fatima Hendricks, who is also a member of the Healthcare Workers for Palestine South Africa, says she has a moral duty and responsibility to help the people of Palestine.
“What has happened in the previous flotillas is that interception has happened and the activists on board have been kidnapped in international waters, so this is a likely scenario.”
She adds: “We have heard in the media threats of long-term imprisonment, but the point is that we need to be very focused on the objective, which is to break the illegal and immoral seizure of Gaza, and to open up a humanitarian sea corridor to the beautiful Palestinian people in Gaza.”
