THE STAR FOUNDATION: 2025 IMPACT REPORT
In just the first half of the year, The Star Foundation, powered by LottoStar, has delivered more transformative change across South Africa than ever before. Through bold campaigns and partnerships, The Star Foundation continues to tackle some of the country’s most pressing social issues, showcasing action that moves beyond charity – towards meaningful and sustained impact.
Back to School with Qhubeka
In partnership with Qhubeka, a charity which moves people forward with bicycles, The Star Foundation launched their “Back to School” campaign in the North West province, donating 50 bicycles to learners at Sefutswelo High School who walk long distances to and from school every day. This initiative has not only improved attendance and reduced travel time to school for learners but also created employment opportunities in the surrounding community through bike assembly and maintenance training.
Jumping Kids – Inclusive Mobility
Continuing its commitment to inclusive mobility from a previous year-long campaign, The Star Foundation renewed its partnership with Jumping Kids, investing a further R600,000 to support custom prosthetic limb fitments for more children across the country. Throughout the year, 16 beneficiaries will receive ongoing, personalised care and prosthetic maintenance to further enhance their confidence and mobility.
Tackling Hunger with SA Harvest
Addressing food security at a national scale, The Star Foundation has committed over R3 Million to a year-long campaign with SA Harvest to deliver rescued food to over 250 Community Based Organisations who prepare meals for the hungry. In just the first three months, over 180 tonnes of surplus food was distributed, resulting in over 700,000 nutritious meals served in Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal.
Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness with U-turn
In the Western Cape, nearly R2 Million is supporting two U-turn service centres. From hot meals and clean clothing to group therapy and ablution access, the partnership is touching the lives of individuals embarking on the journey out of homelessness. The Star Foundation has helped to deliver over 24,000 critical services since May 2025.
Hope Through Little Angels
With support from 1609 Group and The Star Foundation, Little Angels in Hout Bay, Cape Town, is scaling up its service offering through a R2.5 Million donation towards their annual operational budget. The centre offers education to over 100 children, a daily meal for up to 1,000 people in the surrounding communities, a safe house for women and children, youth development programmes and more. Little Angels is a shining example of true resilience in the face of adversity.
Improving Literacy with Help2Read
In Gauteng, The Star Foundation’s R1.2 Million investment in a partnership with Help2Read is improving literacy in under-resourced schools while providing employment opportunities for the surrounding communities. To date, 23 young women have been trained to deliver reading support programmes while hundreds of children are benefitting from the one-on-one support.
Joining Crew for a Cause to Invest in Future Leaders
Through a five-year programme with Crew for a Cause, The Star Foundation is funding scholarships for 10 exceptional learners from underserved areas at top-tier schools in the Western Cape. With the potential to become future leaders, these Grade 8 learners have already demonstrated impressive results, both in and out of the classroom, laying a solid foundation for the years to come.
Youth Empowerment Through Community Keepers
Aligned with their commitment to developing future leaders, a R500,000 contribution to Community Keepers is enhancing the emotional wellbeing of over 3,000 learners in Bonnievale, Western Cape. Through counselling, workshops, and school-based support, this programme deploys a holistic approach to improve mental health among young people who face daily hardships in their home environments.
Looking ahead with even more ambition, The Star Foundation is proving that when we act together, we shine brighter. Through the continued support of LottoStar, a network of inspiring partners, and everyday South Africans, we are not just giving back – we are changing lives. Why? Because at LottoStar and The Star Foundation, charity is our privilege, not an obligation.
