Father jailed for life after raping 11-year old daughter

A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Esikhawini Regional Court for raping his 11-year-old daughter in January this year in Mtunzini, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The man pleaded guilty under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Act.

In his plea, he told the court: “On January 1, 2025, I was at home with my family members. My biological daughter was also there. I called her to my room and raped her.

“My sister walked in on us and asked me what was going on. The complainant was crying, and my sister took her away. The police were then called, and I was arrested.

The child was taken to the Ngwelezane Thuthuzela Care Centre for support.

Prosecutor Kamogelo Nkwatle submitted a Victim Impact Statement compiled by the child and facilitated by Court Preparation Officer Ntombi Chonco.

In it, the girl said: “She has suffered physical injuries as well as emotional and psychological damage. She said that she is performing poorly at school and is  fearful.”

The court sentenced the man to life imprisonment, declared him unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson for the KZN Division, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, said the authority welcomed the judgment.

“The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the successful finalisation of this matter. We remain resolute in our pursuit of justice for victims of child abuse. We will continue to protect the rights and dignity of children,” she said.
