SA weekend weather: Expect rain and sunshine
South Africans can expect a mixed bag of weather conditions this weekend, with Friday bringing pockets of rain and Saturday offering more sunshine but still some lingering showers in parts of the country.
On Friday, the South African Weather Service has issued a Level 1 warning for disruptive rain along the northeastern coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying bridges may occur.
Rainfall probabilities indicate isolated showers of about 30% over parts of the Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, with scattered showers of up to 60% likely along the coast around Durban. Central and western parts of the country, including the Northern Cape, Western Cape and much of the Eastern Cape, will remain dry.
Saturday will see a shift, with conditions clearing across much of the interior. Warm to hot temperatures are expected for the northern interior, including Gauteng, Limpopo and North West, while cooler conditions persist along coastal areas of the Eastern and Western Cape.
Isolated showers, with a 30% chance of rain, are expected over parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal, as well as the eastern fringes of the Eastern Cape. Elsewhere, sunny and partly cloudy skies will dominate, particularly in the Western Cape, where fine weather is forecast.
The weekend promises relief for some drought-stressed areas, while large parts of the country will enjoy settled and warm spring conditions.
