Juarno Augustus insists he has no doubts about his decision to leave the Northampton Saints for Ulster.
The 27-year-old No 8, who began his professional career with the Stormers and Western Province, signed a three-year deal with the Irish province after four seasons at Franklin’s Gardens.
Augustus made 81 appearances for Saints, helping them lift the English Premiership title last season and reach the Champions Cup final.
“I don’t think it’s a mistake, it’s just rugby on a different stage for me,” Augustus said of the move. “I intend to help Ulster reach new heights. I believe we will play in the Champions Cup again next season and do well.”
He will link up with fellow South African and former Sharks wing Werner Kok in Belfast and believes the squad has the right balance to progress.
“I’m excited to be part of the team. There’s a good mix of young, emerging talent and experienced players. I believe we will be very successful in the next few seasons.”

A conversation with former Ulster favourite and Springbok flank Marcell Coetzee, who spent five years with the club, helped make up his mind.
“I spoke to him before I made my decision and Marcell couldn’t finish talking about Ulster. So, there is no doubt in my mind that I am in the right place.”
