Mark Nawaqanitawase is reportedly set to swap rugby league back for union in a bid to play at the 2027 World Cup on home soil.

The 25-year-old flyer has been a revelation since crossing codes to join the NRL’s Sydney Roosters, where he scored 24 tries in 23 games this season and touched down on debut just over a year ago.

But according to the Sydney Morning Herald, Nawaqanitawase has told Roosters officials that he will not renew his deal when it expires at the end of 2026, instead targeting a Wallabies comeback.

Rather than linking up with a Super Rugby Pacific side, the former Waratahs wing – who made 11 Test appearances for the Wallabies in 2022 and 2023 – is expected to continue his career overseas.

That move has been made possible after Rugby Australia recently scrapped the long-standing Giteau Law, which previously restricted the eligibility of foreign-based players to those with a certain number of Test caps and Super Rugby appearances.
