11% of Palestine population wiped out amid Israel-Hamas war – SABC News
About 11% of Palestine’s population has been wiped out by the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. This is according to activist and former Palestinian Minister for Information Dr Mustafa Barghouti.
Barghouti was addressing a panel discussion on what they have termed “genocide against the people of Palestine” in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Sunday.
The current Israel-Hamas conflict has been ongoing for over two years.
Barghouti says thousands of people, including children, have since been killed.
“They have already killed and injured 11% of the population of Gaza. Can you imagine what that means? 11% – apply it here in South Africa, we will be talking about six million people, killed or injured.
“Apply it to the United States of America of President Trump, you will be talking about 33 million people. Can you imagine what the United States would have done if one million people were injured or killed in the United States?”
‘Thank you to SA for bravery’
Another keynote speaker during the panel discussion in Polokwane, former British Labour Party member of parliament, Jeremy Corbyn.
He has appreciated the South African government for its case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
South Africa has accused Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Corbyn says, “I want to say thank you to South Africa for bravery in taking the case to the International Court of Justice and for the consequences, which are taxes imposed by President Trump and others on South Africa and raising tariffs against the South African economy. South Africa has stood firm for its legal action, stand firm by its condemnation of the genocide of the people of Gaza.”
