Avoid tax debt: SARS calls for early payments to prevent penalties
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has called on all taxpayers to make payments as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary delays, penalties, and interest for late payments.
“All taxpayers who are due to make payments should do so by the earliest available date to avoid unnecessary delays, penalties and interest for late payment,” SARS said.
The revenue service assured taxpayers that payments can be made securely through multiple platforms, including eFiling, electronic funds transfers (EFT), and at banks.
SARS added that these platforms are “robust, secure and safe” and “conform to internationally recognised standards,” while also being “user friendly, enabling taxpayers to transact with SARS and comply with their legal obligations.”
SARS also issued a warning to taxpayers to remain vigilant against scams.
“Your credentials on all financial platforms are continuously at risk. There have been many attempts by scammers to defraud taxpayers.”
SARS emphasised that it “will never ask taxpayers to use any link to engage with it” and reminded eFiling users to “protect their login details and use only registered tax practitioners.”
Highlighting the significance of the month, SARS noted that September represents the halfway mark of the financial year and thanked taxpayers for their contributions.
“SARS wishes to thank all taxpayers who diligently contribute to the fiscus through their tax payments,” SARS said.
