China sentences 16 Myanmar-linked gang members to death
A Chinese court sentenced to death on Monday 16 members of a family-run gang engaged in cyber fraud, drug-selling, prostitution, and other crimes in Myanmar’s Kokang region on the border with China, state broadcaster CCTV said.
Five of those sentenced to death were granted a two-year reprieve, while another 23 were given prison sentences of between five years and life.
The Wenzhou Intermediate People’s Court found that the organisation’s criminal activities from 2015 were responsible for the deaths of 14 people.
