DA challenges Tshwane’s cleansing levy charge on complex owners – SABC News

The Democratic Alliance in the City of Tshwane has expressed concerns about the metro’s billing practices, specifically the City Cleansing Levy.

The party argues that this levy is unfair as residents, including those in complexes, are being charged an extra R223.

The High Court in Pretoria made a ruling last month that the levy was unlawful and ordered it to be reversed.

Despite the court’s decision, the City of Tshwane has continued to charge the levy, prompting accusations of contempt of court.

The DA’s Cilliers Brink has urged the city to verify records first to prevent double billing residents.

“We are calling for this levy to be suspended for the mayor to go into the council and say we admit that we have got a budget funding issue. We have got budget funding plan and we will assist the city to come up with solutions, but the city cleansing levy shouldn’t fly the city.”
