Search continues for missing Anovuyo Oncke, 8, in Cape Town
An eight-year-old girl who has been missing since September 6, is still being sought by her community almost a month later.
Anovuyo Oncke, from the Riemvasmaak informal settlement in Phumlani, Lotus River, just mysteriously disappeared.
The Grade 1 learner was last seen on Saturday morning, September 6, when she left her home after 7am.
Searches for the young girl have taken place all over the area; however, there have been no leads or sightings.
However, searches have since died down.
Community worker, Beryl Williams, who has been assisting the family and leading searches alongside police said there are no ongoing searches at the moment.
“Hopefully, searches will resume on Tuesday, September 30, as residents from other areas are expected to join,” Williams told IOL.
The provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said the case remains under investigation by police.
“The child has not been found yet,” Twigg said.
Anovuyo’s parents, Samantha Oncke and Luvuyo Matile, have expressed their devastation at their daughter’s disappearance.
“I am broken. I am hurting from the inside. All over. I just want to know that she is safe. I do not know where she is, what she is eating. I saw her last on [that] Saturday morning,” Samantha said.
Police urge anyone with information who can assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
