Strong winds remain a concern as fire rages on near Camps Bay – SABC News

Authorities are concerned about strong wind conditions fanning the fire near Camps Bay, close to the Pipe Track of SANParks.

About 50 firefighters are on the ground, working to stop the blaze from spreading toward residential areas.

A helicopter has been deployed from George to assist with waterbombing.

SANParks Spokesperson, Charles Phahlane, says no injuries have been reported.

He says hiking trails near Camps Bay have been temporarily closed.

“Well, I can’t say we’re going to have evacuations, but we are monitoring the fire and we are fighting the fire, so that it doesn’t move to the urban edge. Because that’s when we’ll need to start evacuating people. So the idea now is let’s fight the fire, the resources that will come through, especially the helicopter, should assist in bringing it down,” he explains.
