Sublime Sacha your Bok MVP

You voted record-breaking flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu as your Bok MVP, powered by Auto & General, after the Springboks’ 67-30 victory against Argentina in Durban.

Sacha FM received 32% of the votes followed by flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit (23%) and fullback Damian Willemse (16%).

The 23-year-old was simply sublime in just his 14th Test appearance and sixth start in the No 10 jersey, scoring 37 points from a hat-trick of tries, eight conversions and two penalty goals to break Percy Montgomery’s Bok record of 35 set against Namibia in 2007.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu ended with 134m from 13 carries, while beating 13 defenders and making three clean breaks.

“He was brilliant on the day,” raved Rassie Erasmus after the match. “No one can disagree that Sacha was Man of the Match and did incredible things on the field.”

RASSIE: Sacha did incredible things

Former Bok coach Nick Mallett compared the player’s performance to Dan Carter’s against the British & Irish Lions in 2005, when the All Blacks legend scored 33 points in a 48-18 series-clinching win.

“The last time I saw a flyhalf this complete was Dan Carter against the Lions in 2005 – drop, penalties, conversions, tries and decision-making,” said Mallett.

“Today was the first time I’ve seen Sacha get it all right like that – taking gaps when they’re on, finding space with the long kick for himself, the cross-kick, the double kick on the grubber – constant scanning and choosing the right option.”

Meanwhile, Los Pumas coach Felipe Contepomi admitted he’d be happy not to see Sacha’s name on the Springbok team sheet for the rematch at Twickenham on Saturday.

“I don’t know much about the statistics, but it’s very obvious that he’s a brilliant player,” Contepomi said.

“When you’re the coach of the opposition team, you don’t want Sacha to play. But from the rugby fans’ perspective, he’s one of those guys who adds some flair and glamour to the game.”
