Malema firearm case nears conclusion, judgment imminent – SABC News
The presiding magistrate in the case against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and his former bodyguard Adriaan Snyman is continuing to review witness statements in the East London Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape.
Magistrate Twanet Olivier is expected to hand down judgment in the matter which relates to the discharge of a firearm in public.
The delay in the court handing down judgment has sparked outrage amongst party supporters.
Judgment in the matter is likely to be delivered later on Tuesday afternoon.
The magistrate is reviewing the statements of the 18 witnesses the State had called to the stand. She will then proceed to review the statements of the witnesses that the defence had called.
The court is packed to capacity as EFF supporters anxiously await the judgment.
Malema is accused of discharging a firearm in public during the party’s 5th anniversary celebrations at Mdantsane in 2018, while Snyman is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
