All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has challenged his team to find greater consistency when they face the Wallabies in a crunch Rugby Championship decider at a sold-out Perth Stadium on Saturday.

New Zealand bounced back from their record 43-10 hammering by the Springboks with a 33-24 win over Australia in Auckland to retain the Bledisloe Cup. But the hosts nearly let a 20-3 lead slip at Eden Park, and Robertson says that can’t happen again.

“We have got to get more back-to-back moments where we can put pressure on teams and create,” Robertson said.

“You get a ref’s call, don’t get a ref’s call. There’s a bounce of a ball … things can change quickly. All the stuff that we can get better in, our personal self-control and game management, that’s what we are focusing on.”

The All Blacks trail the Springboks by just one point heading into the final round, with both teams still in the hunt for the title. But Robertson knows the Wallabies, buoyed by the returns of powerhouse forwards Will Skelton and Rob Valetini, will be a far tougher prospect in front of their home fans.

“A couple of big bodies coming back, they add more power to their game,” Robertson said. “It will put more of a contest around the football. It’s going to be a hell of an occasion, with two quality teams going head-to-head.”

Injuries remain a concern for New Zealand, with flyhalf Beauden Barrett and prop Ethan de Groot already ruled out, while lock Tupou Vaa’i (knee) and winger Caleb Clarke (ankle) are doubtful. Robertson said Clarke is “running OK” but a final decision will be made later this week.
