CT firefighters battled through the night to subdue fire in Deer Park – SABC News

Firefighters have worked tirelessly throughout the night to battle a wildfire that broke out at Deer Park near Vredehoek in Cape Town.

SANParks spokesperson Charles Phahlane says they are being assisted by the City of Cape Town’s firefighting teams in combatting the blaze on the slopes of Table Mountain.

Phahlane says strong winds fanned the flames.

“We are not able to speculate at this stage what could have caused the fire. Once we have contained it, the investigators will come through and investigate and check what could have caused this fire. But what we know is that most of the fires in the Western Cape or around the Table Mountain National Park are caused by human activity. Because we are close to the urban areas and people do come up the mountain. Our rangers are there to stop people from starting fires, so we don’t know what could have caused this fire.”
