WATCH LIVE | Malema firearm case enters third day of judgment
It could be a case of third time lucky as EFF leader Julius Malema returns to the East London Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for the third day of judgment in his firearm discharge case.
Malema and his former bodyguard, Adriaan Snyman, face charges under the Firearms Control Act.
This dates back to the EFF’s fifth birthday rally in Mdantsane in 2018.
Video footage presented to the court showed Snyman handing Malema a rifle, which Malema then allegedly fired into the air before a packed crowd at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.
Magistrate Twanet Olivier spent Monday and Tuesday reading all the evidence into the record.
The state argued that the gunfire put thousands of people at risk, while the defence maintains the firearm was a prop loaded with blanks.
Both men pleaded not guilty and previously tried to have the charges dropped, but the application was dismissed.
Olivier is currently busy reading the verdict.
