Nehawu slams Gauteng Health senior officials – SABC News

Members of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) have expressed dissatisfaction by the absence of senior officials at the Gauteng Health Department to accept their memorandum of demands.

The union marched outside the department’s offices in Johannesburg.

They are demanding that the department take accountability following the release of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report on corruption at Tembisa Hospital.

The SIU revealed that over R2 billion was looted from the facility in irregular contracts.

Nehawu Provincial chairperson, Sello Mafela says they feel undermined by senior health officials.

“We are a peaceful union. In as much as we have a revolutionary character, we are radical in our approach. But people must not test us. We cannot be tested, and we cannot be allowing a situation whereby interns are coming here and accepting our memorandum. We can’t have a situation whereby people that are acting are coming to collect our memorandum.”
